23 Jul LA celebrates the 50th anniversary of The Doors’ “Love Street” with a cultural first through Shazam
On July 22, 2018, the city of Los Angeles honored The Doors with the first ever cultural marker granted to a band or song with a pair of signs recognizing “Love Street.” Furthermore, Councilman David Ryu announced that the portion of Rothdell Trail that passes the house where Jim Morrison lived and wrote the poem that eventually became the song will be renamed Love Street. The Laurel Country Store will also install a permanent brass plaque on its outer wall to celebrate the significance of the song to the store.
The “Love Street” cultural markers feature a first-of-its-kind Shazam camera icon on the signs to unlock The Doors’ 1968 beloved B-side song on your phone. This feature lets visitors experience the hit in this quintessential LA experience– by visiting the site that inspired the song and streaming it all the while.
Both John Densmore and Robby Krieger attended the ceremony, which was hosted by legendary DJ Jim Ladd and Los Angeles city councilman David Ryu during the annual Love Street Festival.
