This week, a new documentary on Janis Joplin will take center stage at the Venice Film Festival. Directed by Amy Berg, Janis: Little Girl Blue was created with the support of the late musician’s estate and family, allowing for an unfiltered look into her life on and off the stage. Personal letters are read by Chan Marshall (aka Cat Power); family members and friends appear on-screen in new interviews; and Joplin’s hits, from “Piece of My Heart” to “Summertime,” play throughout. For fans of the artist, the doc is not to be missed.

Fashion lovers should put it on their must-see list, too. Yes, Joplin’s Woodstock-by-way-of-San-Francisco vibes look a bit literal in 2015, but there’s no denying her laissez-faire, toss-it-on style has infiltrated the runways—Stella McCartney’s larger-than-life faux fur topper seems inspired by Joplin’s go-to Cossack hat. See five of the star’s most notable fashion crossovers in the slideshow above, and keep your eyes on the upcoming Spring 2016 shows for more Woodstock-worthy garb.
