21 Nov JANIS GETS HER STAR ON THE HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAME!

Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti declared November 4, 2013 as Janis Joplin Day in Los Angeles, and what a day it was. Janis was finally honored with her own star on the world-famous Hollywood Walk of Fame. The ceremony shut down a portion of Hollywood Blvd outside of the Musician’s Institute and featured a heartfelt speech from legendary impresario Clive Davis, and a performance of “Me and Bobby McGee” by Kris Kristofferson in front of hundreds of fans, friends, and family. In addition to the song that Janis made a number one hit in 1971, Kris also sang a song he wrote about Janis entitled “Black and Blue”.

After the speeches and performance, Janis’ siblings Michael and Laura Joplin accepted a certificate commemorating the day, and pulled back the cover to reveal the star with the help of LA City Council Member Mitch O’Farrell. After the ceremony, the gathered fans burst into an impromptu rendition of “Mercedes Benz.”
